Learning Landscapes

The role of the environment

The concept of ‘Learning Landscapes’ was conceived in order to develop an environment prioritising relationships and wellbeing, an environment that welcomes and values the academic, social and emotional aspects of each student.

In many cases, spaces and materials become our ally during the learning process. We believe that space has to be “thought” and valued for its great educational and interactive potential. It is not a simple “container” but an inspiring and enriching context in which learning takes place.

A synthesis of the existing link between: “spaces to learn” – to explore, to play, to admire, to be surprised; and “spaces to be”: to share, to meet, to grow.

Many of the spaces and facilities at Torrequebrada International College are characterised by being open, transparent, and connected; a metaphor for learning focused on relationships, collaboration and an interdisciplinary nature. We create learning landscapes that, as far as possible, adapt to the students and not the other way round, so that it is always the students who have to adapt to them.
